Growing up with limited resources forced Yurika Chiba to make art with whatever was available.  She continues to find this an ongoing inspiration and creates mixed media art and while exploring creativity. Yurika often works with rescued and re-purposed materials, particularly Japanese papers and fabrics.

Yurika combined her resources of Canyon Garden Streams chiyogami from The Rare Orchid, an old wall clock, and an uchiwa fan to create a whimsical washi makeover!  She artfully decoupaged the paper on to the fan, then repurposed the clock parts to design a functional and one of a kind UchiWall Clock.

About Yurika:

Yurika Chiba is a taiko player who tours nationally and internationally, and performs locally at festivals, schools and events with San Jose Taiko. With a degree in psychology from the University of Toronto, one of her pursuits is an ongoing investigation on how to continue to think creatively throughout one's lifetime. You can see more of Yurika's work at: facebook.com/YukiArt

Thank you Yurika for sharing your artful combination of old and new materials.

The Rare Orchid's Kickstarter campaign ends December 10.  Help us reach our goal so we can bring more hand-crafted, one of a kind chiyogami designs to the United States. www.kickstarter.com/projects/tro/washi
